It's official - Value Added Resellers of PC products are more cost effective than buying direct! Global research company IDC confirmed that the cost of equipment in any procurement cycle is just 35% of the total outlay over it's life time and has a hidden cost of around £225 per PC! Buying direct means low initial hardware cost, but you have to do all the time consuming work getting it to work, acquiring service packs, security fixes, and update patches. Also the support you receive from the large direct sales can often lead you to repeat this process all over again if your hardware is replaced under warranty or your software needs re-installed! Buying from a VAR generally means this painful process is taken care of before the system is delivered, providing you with a reliable system straight out of the box and making you instantly more productive. We are a registered IPI ( Intel Product Integrator) and supply/install Intel® Processor based Desktop and Server PC's. We also supply the Fujitsu-Siemens and Acer range of Notebooks, plus we are Microsoft OEM system Builders. Click on the images and links below for further information. Our Desktop and Server range is available built to order and consists of Antec and Intel cases, Intel P4 "Hyper Threading" ready Intel motherboards. The Antec cases have been chosen for their style and quietness. For small desktop office workhorses, the Aria cube is unique as any microATX motherboard can be fitted and the Minuet is whisper quiet but with enough ventilation to operate with a 3.4GHz processor fitted. For more expansion potential choose the Overture desktop or Sonata midi tower. These are also whisper quiet and are suitable for entry level server boards as well as desktops. The server range starts with single P4 motherboards housed in a choice of cases to give small company's a reliable price/performance/expansion entry range. For those that need a higher level of performance and expandability the dual Xeon capable server range makes up the rest of the range. Please contact us to discuss your exact requirements and pricing specific to your use - we build to your preferences! We also supply IDE, S-ATA and SCSI RAID controllers from Intel and Adaptec.
SAMPLE BUILD SPEC'S DESKTOP'S Really cost effective general purpose office workhorse desktop's can be built using the Aria and Minuet cases using an Intel D915GLVG motherboard with 256Mb of high performance DDR memory and a Celeron D 2.8GHz processor. A high performance 80Gb S-ATA drive gives huge amounts of storage space and a performance boost in itself with high data transfer rates. Want to future proof performance? Already built in as the latest 800MHz fsb Pentium 4 processors are supported and up to 4Gb of memory, as well as are integrated Network and USB 2.0 ports, audio and graphics. There is still room for 3 PCI expansion cards if you need to add peripherals or special function cards. ENTRY LEVEL SERVERS Pick any of the single Pentium 4 based server boards (SE7210TP1-E, SE7221BK1-E, SE7221BA1-E or SE7233NH1-E) and choose the level of expansion you want with either the Antec Overture desktop or Sonata midi cases. For maximum expansion go for the Intel SC5200 case as it supports up to 10 hot swap SCSI drives or 8 hot swap S-ATA drives. All these boards support error correcting memory and either EIDE or S-ATA drives configured in RAID arrays for highly cost effective fault tolerant solutions to managing your critical business data. The Overture and Sonata cases are especially suitable for small offices and even home network servers as they are both stylish and quiet. ENTERPRISE LEVEL SERVERS Medium enterprises, or small enterprises with moderate data intensive needs, can find they function adequately with a single Pentium 4 based server such as the SE7210TP1-E in the Intel SC5200 case. For larger sites with higher amounts of users, or those that want the potential to accommodate a larger user base without replacing their server, start with any of the dual Xeon motherboards such as the SE7505VB2 with either one or both processors fitted to give a greater margin for future expansion, resilience and fault tolerance. SERVER LIFE SPAN All of our servers are built with a useful life expectancy of between 5 and 7 years, and come with multi-format DVD recordable drives as standard so that large amounts of critical data can be archived for easy retrieval. Add in removable drive carriers for low cost high availability local backup with SSI removable drive carriers, Iomega REV drives for low to medium capacity backup and Sony AIT high capacity tape backup for the whole data system to give various cost options for maximising your company's disaster recovery potential. All our servers are also supplied with a minimum of two hard drives configured as RAID1 (mirrored) to give fault tolerance to your system. Microsoft small Business Server 2003 is fantastic value for money and has terrific features that are of most use to small businesses with 3 to 75 users, and is ideal for running on any of these servers. HUMAN INTERFACE DEVICES Don't forget matching black/silver LCD monitors from AOC, standard CRT monitors from CTX as well as Microsoft mice and keyboards from Cherry and Microsoft. Once you have used an optical intellimouse, you will never want to use a mouse with a roller ball ever again! The Intellimouse Explorer 5 button mouse with tilt wheel on the left is curved to fit right handed folks with two back/forward buttons at the thumb and allows fast smooth scrolling up, down, left and right. the Intellimouse Optical on the right also has 5 buttons, but the back/forward ones are on each side so it can be easily used left or right handed. Both have USB/PS2 connectors. As well as the ever popular Microsoft keyboard range, we also have the Cherry Cybo@rd which is a multimedia and internet keyboard, optionally available with a 2 port USB hub.
When comparing prices with other suppliers, please compare LIKE for LIKE. We do not bundle valueless applications that are not relevant to reliable business use. We do however charge an optional additional installation and set up fee depending on the amount of work required that is specific to YOUR requirements. But remember that in levying this charge, you will not have to spend ONE or TWO hours installing and configuring each PC before use, then possibly another THREE or FOUR hours service packing, security patching, driver and virus scanner updating to make your system and application software current. Please estimate this cost at your rate and you will find it is much more cost effective for us to do it for you, not to mention the confidence factor that it will be working reliably at the end of it! Because your PC's and network have been built and installed to YOUR requirements, maintaining and fixing any subsequent problems that may arise are more easily effected on site compared to "off the shelf" pre-installed large vendor products intended for the mass market. I have lost count of the amount of times I have been told that D@*# or some other vendor has told the end user to reboot the PC with the image CD and reinstall it after recreating the system partition. If you don't understand the consequences of this seemingly simple fix, you are being told to get the system back to how it was delivered to you when you first opened the box - and destroy EVERYTHING on your hard drive! Yep, it's ALL GONE and you are back to square one. Question - you were regularly making backup's of all your data before you followed this instruction? Too late now if you weren't... Also beware of on site or return to base warranties bundled with mainstream PC's too - they won't fix your incorrectly configured software and on the majority of cases are limited to hardware swap-out fixes which will leave you in exactly the same situation of getting your PC up and running again by yourself. Some even void your warranty if you open the box to add in a card or can only purchase "approved" cards from them - usually at exorbitant prices. Again, check out the add-on's and options when comparing prices from your favourite vendor's stock. ADSL INTERNET ACCESS We also supply and configure the Draytek Vigor range of ISDN, ADSL and Ethernet routers, which sport a tremendous range of features for the money. Not all broadband routers are equal. The majority of the sub £100 routers simply won't do for server based installations if you want to establish remote access features - fine for the home, but let's keep them there. At the other end of the price scale are offerings from the likes of Cisco, 3Com & HP, but you will be parting with the best part (or more) of £1,000 for the privilege of getting large enterprise features. On the other hand, you could be buying smart and using Draytek routers instead for your business, costing less than midway between the two extremes but with comparable features to high end devices. Check this table for model comparisons and the images above for popular variants of the range. Here's what you can do with them - connect sites together with dedicated VPN's, allow access through to VPN servers for remote access teleworkers, add hardware fire wall services to your network, connect sites with VoIP connections for free telephone calls between them - even connect PBX's together for seamless communications, add content filtering of internet traffic, wireless networking (can also utilise your RADIUS server for security), USB printer connection and 4 port switch, ISDN backup plus DDNS, VLAN, port throttling, static/dynamic routing, DMZ, no-NAT, multi-NAT- BEAT THAT!! We will do everything we can to help you keep your data safe and secure so that your business interruptions are minimised in these situations should they occur. We will also provide as much or as little training and education that you are comfortable with, so as to understand the consequences of the actions you can take to troubleshoot or maintain the security and reliability of your systems yourself.
If your business is located in East Lothian or Midlothian, you may be eligible for a grant of up to £1000 through the Tyne-Esk Leader+ scheme. |
